Hi, I haven't been on BoxersRule for a long time as I was busy and very happy with Isabelle our rescue. Well, things have changed. About two years ago Isabelle once in a while started to snap at us both when we had visitors; she only went for us not the visitors, so we tried to work out what was wrong. It gradually got worse, she really bit Gunthers hand one day, I had to put a bandage on it. When she would turn on us we would crate her for a little while, when we let her out she seemed to have forgotten what she had done and was her loving self, all wiggles & kisses. You could tell she was going to bite by the look in her eyes, & she would get right in front and face you. Well, to end it all, she went for me the other week and bit my face, she jumped up right from a sit in front of me, I couldn't turn as we were in the hallway, she was on her leash as I was taking her outside. Gunther put her in her crate & drove me to the local hospital where I had 4 stitches put in my face between nose & lip. When we finally came home from the hospital I went to her crate and let her out, she was so loving & happy, I know she didn't remember what had happened. Sadly to say she is no longer with us as we couldn't trust her as we have 2 small children living next door. She went back to the rescue so that she could get checked over by the vet, everything was OK he couldn't find what was causing the attacks. They had Isabelle a couple of days then just as the husband walked by her she went for him. We all believe that there was something making her like that. So that is my sad story, we are really missing her. Gunther wanted another one right away as he missed his walking companion; there were some puppies in te local paper, but I don't see paying $1,200.00 for a pet when there are so many waiting for a home. Hopefully we will be getting one in a few weeks time. I will let you all know when he arrives. But I still miss my sweet Isabelle.

Helene I feel so sorry for you right now. Its weird how they seem to change over night?
I am thinking that you want to look into another rescue? If so, awesome...you are right, there are hundreds of dogs looking for their forever home. I know for sure, the little girl that I want to get is going to come from a rescue. |

Helene,
I'm so sorry Isabelle developed problems. I wonder what sort of (if any) actual tests the vet did. Boxers tend to have less tolerance for low thyroid levels than some dogs and aggression can be one result. It's a pretty easy fix once it's identified though. Vision problems are sometimes a hard to detect cause of aggression too as are the dreaded brain tumors which can be another cause. Good luck with your search. Take your time and you'll find the perfect furkid to share your home, life & heart. Please keep us posted. |

Helene, it's lovely to "see" you again, although I am so sorry to read what has happened. I hope that a cause can be found as to why Isabelle is acting this way, but it may not be anything that can be cured. A brain tumor could cause this type of behavior.... Regardless of the cause, I am so sorry for her, and for you and Gunther. I am glad that you weren't hurt worse. I know that returning her to the rescue has to have been a very sad and difficult decision for both of you. Big hugs. |

Hi Helene! Sorry things didn't work out with Isabelle, hopefully it's a fixable problem. The house sure is quiet without them romping around.

We found out that they had to put Isabelle to sleep, Chantelle said she must have had some wires crossed somewhere, it could have been the accident she had before we got her. The vet they have is very thorough in his tests so I know they checked all possibilities, they just couldn't chance her biting someone more serious than she did me.
It is nice to 'talk' to you again Cindy & Chris, I will try and keep in touch this time & not stay away too long; although we do have the Olympics going on in the Vancouver/Whistler area, we won't be going but will watch as much as possible on TV, the tickets are too expensive for us 'old pensioners'. I hope they get more snow on the local mountains, this is the warmest winter that I can remember since coming to Canada in 1965. |

Helene,
I'm so sorry about Isabelle. It's so sad when we can't fix them. She's at the Bridge now and is once again the happy boxer she was meant to be. Please do visit more often! and BTW....you guys did a GREAT job with the Opening Ceremony! |
